About Us

Built by tool people, in Georgia, since 2007

Renewed Tools is the direct store of Reconditioned Sales, Inc., the exclusive U.S. Authorized Reconditioning Center for DEWALT® and CRAFTSMAN®. Every tool you see here was reconditioned in our own warehouse in Norcross, Georgia, by the same team that has been doing this work for nearly two decades.

How it started

Our founder, Kenny Libby, started out on job sites as a framer, then spent years on the manufacturer side of the tool business: first as a product specialist at DEWALT, then in sales, product management and marketing at Hitachi Power Tools. In 1999 he founded Big Sky Tools, a contractor tool and fastener supplier.

Big Sky bought a lot of reconditioned tools, and we saw firsthand what happens when there is no real standard behind them: one week tools came repaired, the next week they didn't. We believed contractors deserved better than that. So we pitched a better way: let one dedicated team take every return, recondition it the right way, and stand behind it. In 2007 that idea became Reconditioned Sales, Inc., and we began reconditioning for one of the major power tool brands. For the next 14 years we reconditioned 50,000 to 60,000 tools a year.

DEWALT® and CRAFTSMAN®

In April 2023 we became the exclusive U.S. Authorized Reconditioning Center for DEWALT® and CRAFTSMAN®. For Kenny it was a homecoming: his career in power tools began at DEWALT in the mid-1990s. We worked with DEWALT's engineering team to build a reconditioning process specific to each category of tool, and every tool we sell goes through it. Today we recondition 90,000 to 100,000 DEWALT and CRAFTSMAN tools a year.

How we recondition every tool

  • Tracked from start to finish. In 2007 we built our own system, Tech Tracking. When a technician starts a tool, its serial number and model are logged on an iPad and the clock starts. Every part used is recorded, and every defect is coded.
  • Genuine parts and accessories only. Repairs use genuine parts, and every tool ships with all of its original accessories, exactly as it would new.
  • Quality control before it's packed. A dedicated quality control team checks every tool before it goes into its final packaging.
  • Accountability you can trust. Because every tool is tracked, we can trace any tool back to the technician who reconditioned it, and spot part or defect trends across thousands of tools. That data helps us, and the manufacturer, keep improving.

Every tool carries a 1-year limited warranty.

The team

At peak we run 12 reconditioning technicians and 10 warehouse staff in Norcross, led by a general manager who has been with us for 12 years.

Why we sell direct

For years our reconditioned tools reached you through other retailers. Now we sell them ourselves, straight from the people who recondition them. That means fresher stock, honest descriptions, and a team that knows every tool we ship.

From the owner

I was born in Marietta and have lived most of my life in Milton, Georgia. After college I framed houses for two years, then joined DEWALT in the mid-1990s as a product specialist, running product demos for distributors and their contractor customers on large commercial job sites up and down the East Coast. In the late '90s I moved to Hitachi Power Tools as a territory sales manager, then into the corporate office as product manager and later marketing manager. In 1999 I resigned to start Big Sky Tools (originally Summit Supplies), and I built houses alongside it.

I'm a woodworker by hobby and by love. When I'm not in the warehouse, you'll find me fly fishing, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, golfing, or out somewhere in the van. I've used these tools my whole career, and I want every one we sell to be one I'd put in my own truck.
